We built the solar company we couldn't find
Sutton Solar began with a simple frustration: two people who wanted solar, and an industry that made it almost impossible to trust anyone enough to buy it.
Simon and Matt have been friends for as long as either of them can remember. Their careers took them into completely different industries, but they kept circling back to the same conversation: renewable energy, and why getting solar onto their own homes felt so much harder than it should be.
Every time they spoke to an installer, something felt off. Vague answers to straight questions. Sales patter where there should have been engineering. Performance figures no one could actually back up. They wanted to invest in solar — they just couldn't find anyone who seemed to genuinely know their stuff, or whom they felt they could trust with a decades-long investment.
So they did something about it. Rather than settle for a supplier who didn't inspire confidence, they decided to become the one that did. They threw themselves into researching the industry from the ground up — the technology, the standards, the maths behind a genuinely good install — and earned the accreditations to do it properly. Sutton Solar and Security Limited was formed in 2022.
Their reasoning was simple. If two people this determined struggled to find an installer they could trust, they couldn't possibly be the only ones. There must be plenty of homeowners and businesses who want clean energy but feel let down by the lack of transparency and expertise everywhere they look. Sutton Solar exists for exactly those people.
Two friends, one mission
Different backgrounds, complementary strengths, and a shared conviction that solar should be done honestly.
Simon
Co-founder
Simon brings a hands-on, problem-solving mindset and an eye for doing things properly. He drives the practical side of every project — from the first survey through to a clean, careful install — and won't sign off on anything he wouldn't put on his own roof.
Matt
Co-founder
Matt is obsessive about data and transparency. He's the reason every system we touch is monitored live — because the numbers should speak for themselves. If a panel underperforms, he wants to know before you do.
Solar, done the way we'd want it done
If you've been put off by installers who couldn't earn your trust, let's have a proper, honest conversation.
